BA/BS to BSN Admission Criteria/Process

All applicants must meet the general admission requirements of Marshall University as described for a degree-seeking transfer student, prior to applying to the BA/BS to BSN program. Admission to the BA/BS to BSN program is on a competitive basis. The application deadline is September 15. Students will be accepted into the BA/BS to BSN Program criteria:
*Earned baccalaureate degree from an accepted, accredited higher education institution.
*A minimum overall college GPA of 3.0 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in required pre-requisite course, both on a 4.0 scale.
*Applicants with less than an overall 3.0 GPA or cumulative 3.0 GPA in required prerequisite courses may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis, as capacity allows.
*Applicants must be admitted to Marshall University, as degree- seeking transfer students, prior to applying to the BA/BS to BSN program.
All required prerequisite non-nursing courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.
Important notices when applying:
Background and Drug Screens
Prior to beginning clinical, students must complete a background check and drug screen. Based upon the finding, students may not be allowed to continue in the Nursing Program. Additionally, the School of Nursing may require students to submit to a drug screen upon reasonable suspicion or cause or may impose random drug testing for students undergoing treatment for substance abuse. Facilities utilized for clinical may have additional requirements at any point in the curriculum that require students submit to additional testing. All drug screens and background checks are the financial responsibility of the student.
Travel Requirements
The School of Nursing utilizes multiple clinical agencies during the course of the Nursing Program. Some of these agencies are outside the immediate campus area, (either Huntington or Charleston). It is the student's responsibility to arrange transportation to all clinical sites utilized in the program. During the course of the program, students may be assigned to clinical experiences that may occur any time of the day, any day of the week.
Health Form and Immunizations
Prior to the start of the program, students must submit a completed health form and record of immunizations. Clinical agencies may require other immunizations at any point in the curriculum and it is the responsibility of the student to provide documentation as required.
Required Transcripts
Students will need to have official transcripts sent to BOTH Marshall University as well as the School of Nursing. Transcripts must be submitted as part of the admission criteria.
Onboarding Costs
In the event that facilities charge any onboarding costs for student placement, it is the responsibility of the student to pay these charges.
State Board of Nursing
The State Board of Nursing may deny eligibility to sit for the Registered Nurse Licensing Examination to individuals who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony and persons with drug/chemical dependency. Admission to and graduation from the MU School of Nursing does not guarantee applicant will be permitted to sit for the licensing examination
